In week one of Technical Writing class, I was required to create a memo that discussed what types of writing I expected to learn through this course. I also had to explain how the different types of writing will help me in my future career. One of the requirements for my memo was to follow the 3-part system which includes introduction, body paragraph, and conclusion.
This is what I submitted to my professor:

Types of Writing
|
In my previous classes, we have done many different types of writing. These writings include essays, short answer, and short stories. In my career with the medical field, I expect to write resumes, memos, letters, and documents that record a patient’s history and physical examination. These types of writing are very similar yet completely different. In this memo, I will compare and contrast the types of writings I have done for classes in the past with the types of writing I expect to do in my career.
The writings that I have done in class are very alike to the writings I will do in my career. Essays, short answer, and short stories all require organization and critical thinking skills. Whether I am patient’s vital signs or writing a letter to a co-worker, I will still have to be organized, professional, and think critically. Both types of writing require time, effort, and accuracy to ensure a successful writing.
However, these types of writing are different in many distinguished ways. The essays, short stories, and short answer that I wrote in previous classes were mainly about fiction and fantasy novels. In my career, I will be participating in more realistic and practical writings that are geared toward the patient and their health. Where you can right several drafts of an essay or short story, you have to be precise in healthcare when writing. Although the types of writing are very distinct, they are both crucial to learn and apply in everyday life.
This class would best help me prepare for my career in a technical workplace by learning how to properly format letters, memos, and emails. By having the ability to create tasteful documents for customers and co-workers I will be assured that they are able to interact and find information quick with my designed documents. This class will guide me from the beginning of the project to the end.
Even though descriptive essays are useful in school and various courses, this formatting will not be used often in healthcare. I am excited to learn and apply these new writing styles this semester.-Memo to Employees-

Subject: Changes in Clothing Store operations
In this memo I have enclosed some information regarding changes in our retail store operations. We appreciate your hard work and feel as if you deserve a reward for your commitment to this store operation.
The stores will now be closed on Sundays, allowing our employees to spend the day with friends and families. On Monday through Saturday, stores will open an hour later and close an hour earlier. Full-time employees, including managers, will have four-day, 10-hour workweeks. Part-time employees will consolidate their hours into 1-, 2-, or 3-day workweeks, depending on how many hours a week they work. None of our stores are closing, but no new stores will be opening at this time.
We apologize for any inconvenience these upcoming changes may have on you as the employee. We are thankful for your commitment to our retail store operation. If you have any questions regarding the information enclosed, call me at (321) 555-2233, extension 541, or email me at mallorymobley@clothingprmanager.com.
